SAM_1480-cropBetter late than never!

Somewhat delayed, the inaugural Christmas release by Muang Phuket Local Post will be issued on Christmas Day itself.  This will consist of six individual designs, printed in sheets of fifteen stamps with two different layouts).  In addition, there is a special first day of issue handstamp and three seasonal variations of the regular MPLP postmark.  We’ve also added a “Santa Mail’ service to the ‘Tuk-Tuk Express’ and ‘Carried by Elephant’ modes.

The 12 Days of Christmas Stamps 2013: #10, Japan (2012)

I was somewhat surprised to find Christmas stamps issued by Japan but I suppose that’s okay because I’ve seen Yuletide releases from places like Sri Lanka and Palestine also (well, the last really shouldn’t be surprising). Anyway, these stamps released on 9 November 2012 and they’re all cute. My favorite, however, is the tree of Santas… Posted from WordPress for Android Continue reading The 12 Days of Christmas Stamps 2013: #10, Japan (2012)

The 12 Days of Christmas Stamps 2013: #9, Solomon Islands (1983)

I have always been interested in stamps from islands more than landlocked nations and those located in the Pacific have always been high on my collecting want list. In my new-found fascination with Christmas stamps I most enjoy those that portray the holiday traditions that I miss from the U.S. and Europe. However, sometimes a stamp catches my eye that pictures celebrations far removed from … Continue reading The 12 Days of Christmas Stamps 2013: #9, Solomon Islands (1983)

The 12 Days of Christmas Stamps 2013: #7, Mexico Postal Card (2013)

For this year’s holiday season, Mexico issued a set of four pre-paid postal cards depicting Santa Claus, the Three Wise Men, a piñata, and assorted Christmas symbols. I quite like this one for the international postage rate. Posted from WordPress for Android Continue reading The 12 Days of Christmas Stamps 2013: #7, Mexico Postal Card (2013)

The 12 Days of Christmas Stamps 2013: #6, Christmas Island (1999)

The whimsical holiday designs by Christmas Island, an Australian territory in the Indian Ocean, often features the theme of “Santa in paradise.” This is an idea which I am attempting to incorporate in the soon-to-be-announced 2013 “Christmas in Phuket” release by Muang Phuket Local Post. I particularly like Kris Kringle laying in the hammock and the crabs polishing his boots. The 12 Days of Christmas Stamps 2013: #5, Monaco (1978)

I love this stamp released by Monaco on 8 November 1978 picturing a girl holding a Christmas card and surrounded by symbols of the season plus various toys.  This style of design, coupled with the line engraving, always catches my eye and is quite common among the stamps of France of her colonies in particular.  Check out the cat and mouse in the lower left … Continue reading The 12 Days of Christmas Stamps 2013: #5, Monaco (1978)

The 12 Days of Christmas Stamps 2013: #4, Australia (2013)

Australia has issued Christmas stamps since 1957 (the U.S.A. released their first in 1962) and, in my opinion, they are extremely hit-or-miss in their designs having some of my least favorite overall. Oddly enough, neighboring New Zealand has also had numerous ugly Yuletide stamps over the years. That trend continues this year as I’m not that thrilled with Australia’s religious-themed stamps based on a painting … Continue reading The 12 Days of Christmas Stamps 2013: #4, Australia (2013)
